The launch has taken place of the 2019 Connacht Rugby Summer Camps with totalhealth Pharmacy, which begins this July in locations across the West of Ireland.

In total 19 rugby clubs from Connacht will be hosting one week long camps, starting on Monday 1st July in Creggs RFC, Sligo RFC and Galwegians RFC.

The Summer Camps, which are run by fully accredited IRFU coaches, are open to boys and girls between the ages of 6-12 and no prior rugby experience is necessary.

Children will get to experience the sport in a fun, safe environment while developing the basic rugby skills and making friends.

As is tradition, a number of Connacht Rugby pro players will also visit every camp, giving kids the opportunity to meet their heroes and play games.

Speaking at this week’s launch, Joe Gorham Head of Rugby Development at Connacht Rugby said:

“We are delighted to officially launch this year’s Connacht Rugby Summer Camps in conjunction with totalhealth Pharmacy. The Summer Camps are an integral part of the Club & Community calendar here at Connacht. Through our ‘Grassroots to Green Shirts’ vision we want to get a rugby ball in the hands of every boy and girl in the province and have them experience the benefits of our great sport. We know that every child attending the Camps over the course of the summer will have a fantastic time. We are also thrilled to have totalhealth Pharmacy again on board as our official partner for a second year and we look forward to our partnership continuing to grow into the future.”

The Connacht Rugby squad and management team will travel to Ballina on Wednesday 11th July to meet members of the local rugby club and Ballina community.

The trip will take place in conjunction with the Connacht Rugby Summer Camp which will be held at the club throughout week. The visit to Ballina is the first in a number of club and community visits that the squad have planned for the upcoming season.

Ballina RFC are coming off a hugely successful season during which they secured a return to the Ulster Bank League with victory in the All-Ireland Qualifiers and won the Cawley Cup, Connacht Junior Cup and Connacht Junior League. Their achievements on and off the field were acknowledged in May when they were named Connacht Rugby Club of the Year at the annual Connacht Rugby Awards.

During the visit to Ballina the Connacht players will take part in a number of drills and games with the kids who will also get opportunities for autographs and pose for photos afterwards.

The week-long Connacht Rugby Summer Camps are taking place in conjunction with official partners ‘Totalhealth Pharmacy’. There are a number of places available at the Summer Camp in Ballina and the 17 other venues that will host camps over the next six weeks. Places can be booked by visiting community.connachtrugby.ie.

The senior squad are coming to the end of their fourth week of pre-season with four new additions joining training this week. View the photos here.

Ireland internationals Kieran Marmion, Tiernan O’Halloran, Finlay Bealham and Dave Heffernan – who all featured for Ireland in the USA and Japan tour in June – returned to training after four weeks of recuperation.

Fiji international Naulia Dawai will return to training shortly having featured for Fiji on their summer tour that included a 27-22 victory over Scotland.

Along with a vigorous pre-season training programme on the pitch and in the gym, the squad have been visiting clubs across the province over the past four weeks.

40 squad members have been out to see the young players in our Summer and Excellence Camps in Galwegians, Ballinasloe, NUIG RFC, Sligo, Corrib, Carrick on Shannon, Loughrea, Castlebar, Gort, Westport, Monivea and Dunmore.

This week, 17 players were delighted to ring Season Ticket holders to say thanks for the support, safe to say the supporters appreciated the calls (see fan reaction below).

Following the launch of our new home kit last week, in association with BLK and Elverys Intersport, John Muldoon, Ultan DIllane and Bundee Aki visited fans the Corbett Court Elvery’s store.

Yesterday also saw the photoshoot for the new kit take place with the away and European jerseys to be launched next month.

While we await the fixture list for next season, two fixtures that have been confirmed are the pre-season clashes away to Wasps and at home against Bristol on Saturday, August 26, at 3pm. Tickets start from just €5 with entry free for Season Ticket holders.

Buy Bristol tickets here and a Season Ticket here.

Our squad members have been out visiting Connacht Rugby Summer Camps and Excellence Camps, in association with Galway Free Range Eggs over the past 10 days.

Last week saw Cian Kelleher, Stacey Ili, Cillian Gallagher and Conan O’Donnell visit Sligo RFC;  Bundee Aki, Niyi Adeolokun, Tom Farrell and James Cannon got a great reception at Ballinasloe; and Sean O’Brien, Peter Robb, James Connolly and Gavin Thornbury were welcomed to Galwegians.

This week, Andrew Browne, Craig Ronaldson and Peter McCabe were in NUIG; Eoin Griffin, Shane Delahunt and Pat O’Toole were up in Carrick on Shannon for the Summer and Excellence Camps; and Darragh Leader, Steve Crosbie, and Eoin McKeon were at Corrib RFC.

Bundee Aki was very impressed by a school project on his favourite player by one of the Ballinasloe RFC youngsters!

There are still places available on our upcoming Summer Camps, click here for more information.
