The U17 Div One League comes to a fitting climax in Tuam on Saturday, as Westport meet Galwegians for league honours.

The pair has been there or thereabouts vying for league honours through the grades and they meet once again for rugby hegemony.

The 3.45pm kickoff will likely draw a well-populated sideline, despite the neutral venue, the match as an “eagerly-awaited final between two outstanding rugby nurseries”.

Westport disposed of a weakened Corinthians side 25points to three, Galwegians had the tougher toil overcoming Sligo 18-10. The winners will contest the All-Ireland underage competition in April (a title Galwegians claimed last year in fine fashion).

Onpaper, Westport look the more balanced side and have won all but one league encounter. Galwegians, by contrast, has a lively pack and never-say-die approach which may yet prove critical in determining the outcome.

If you want to see exciting, skillful, committed underage rugby, Tuam RFC may well be the pick of the crop this weekend, late afternoon Saturday, kick-off 3.45pm.
