Pres Athenry 26-15 v An Carraroe

by Niall Burke and Conor Hamill.

On the 10th of March Presentation College Athenry had an impressive victory over a strong Carraroe side.  The match looked to be going Carraroes way in the first half with two opening trys within the first twenty minutes but the Pres team managed to get a score back before half time with Alan Cosgrove crossing the line and it was then converted by outhalf Andrew Collins leaving the score at 10-7. Jack Bergin found a gap in the opposition line and luckily touched down, the score to 12-10 unfortunately the conversion was missed by the slightest of margins.  The Pres team were brought in by Manager Claude Geoghan and Coach Pat Hanrahan, they gave the team the inspiration and advice they badly needed to come out and play the way they did in the second half.

Ryan O’Connor then scored shortly after which really lifted the spirits of the Pres team.  Shortly after that the Carraroe team spread the ball well across the field to their winger who scored a try in the corner.  There was a battle on the Pres five metre line as Carraroe team desperately tried to get a score but the Pres defence was on form and kept their composure and the ball was turned over by the Pres from that point on the Pres boys looked like they had the win with another score this time from number 9 and Captain Callum Forde who gave the Pres team the bonus point they needed to qualify the Semi final against holy rosary college Mountbellew which is going to be played on the 20/3/14. The final score of the game was 26-15 an impressive victory from Presentation College Athenry.
