Based on the score at full time it would be easy to believe that this game may have been slightly one sided and that the boys from the Jes dominated for the most part, In fact nothing could be further from the truth and in Salthill last Thursday both set of players offered up a fantastic game of entertaining free flowing rugby played in perfect conditions in St Endas.

The start of the game saw St Endas grab the initiative and attack the Jes line with repeated surges, however a mixture of great defensive work and some “white line fever” saw the game remain level when a score looked inevitable. Mid way through the first half saw a swing in momenteum and Colaiste Iognaid hit their purple patch. A great combination of excellent ball retention and a willingness to involve the backs regularly saw Jes score two quick trys before the break. The resumption after half time saw a similar pattern as the end of the firstand the game threatened to get away from St Endas as two more trys were ran in on the flanks with some noticable team work by the Jes pack on display.

After what must have been a rousing pep talk by their coaches underneath the posts the St Endas lads came back out fighting. With fifteen minutes reamining the game was concentrated in the Jes “22”. While not being able to come away with a score there were many scoring chances created and on another day would have resulted in a reward on the scoreboard. On the day Colaiste Iognaid most impressive performers were Dara Golden, Evan Kenny, Adam Cunningham and Rory O Connor while for St Endas Brian Harlow, Robert Previtte Conor Killian and Killian Davern were always to the fore.

At the close of play both sets of coaches would have been delighted with the skills and commitment on display and shows some very bright signs for the future for both schools.
