Connacht’s U17’s trials, a first for Connacht Girls

Players from clubs across the province travelled to Galway for the first ever Connacht U17’s girls’ trials. Over 30 players took part in the 2 hour session which incorporated conditioning games and a match to see players’ talent and skill. Head coach Emer O’Dowd and Assistant coaches Heather Carey , Ruth O’Reilly and Carol Staunton were on hand to see how well these players have progressed through their club training.
Wendy Hickey, WCRO, is thrilled with the growth of the game in the province over the past 2 years. “Who would have thought that in 2 years time, Connacht would have 4 clubs playing rugby, with more clubs expressing interest and looking to start next year! Westport, Connemara, Ballina and now Dunmore have gotten behind the girls, and from all accountants, the number of players are growing form week to week. The Connacht U17’s scheduled matches are March 5th against a combination of clubs in Munster, and March 26th against Abbeyfeale.”
