U17 League Division Starts 10th October.

The Connacht U17 Division 1 league gets underway next weekend the 10th Oct (KO 12:00) with 4 exciting opening matches. In the most open competition in recent years Sligo will want to lay down a marker as they host Corinthians who will be hoping for a performance in this difficult away fixture. Buccaneers travel to Ballinasloe (KO 1:00pm) for the first local derby of the season, Buccs are favourites but the expectation is that Ballinasloe will bring their customary physicality and doggedness and make the visitors fight for every point. Westport have the onerous task of travelling to last years champions Galwegains. Westport will hope to spring a surprise and with the likes of the very talented Jamie Dever who recently shone for the Connacht Youths in their magnificent win over Leinster in Donnybrook, this match may be closer that expected. The final paring has Monivea travelling to Connemara and on recent form Monivea will be expected to take the spoils, but as many teams will testify there are no easy victories at the Monastery Field.

To show the dedication of that these young players, Galwegians have a new recruit, Eric Faherty who lives on Inishmore. For training he gets the ferry and then a bus, followed by a 20 minute walk, once training is finished he stays overnight in Galway with relatives, returning the following day by bus and ferry to the Aran Islands. So far he has not missed a session.
