In a continuation of the very successful ‘Welcoming Clubs’ Programme from last season the IRFU, in conjunction with John Oates, have designed a further 3 workshops for this Season. The first of these workshops will take place on Tuesday 13th November at 7.30pm in the Ard Rí House Hotel in Tuam, Co. Galway.

The Workshop will deal with Women in Rugby, below is an explanation of what will be covered.

Women In Rugby – Embracing the Future

This seminar will cover women’s participation within rugby. Their involvement in the club as volunteers on committees, as players, coaches, referees, social members and as parents, and how we advertise to and support each grouping. The workshop will help attendees assess the needs of these groups and how their club can best support them. Support material for recruitment and case studies on clubs who have benefitted from the addition of women in their clubs will be available on the night.

The workshop will include the following information;

  • Overview of the game
  • Why should clubs consider running a women’s section?
  • Why do a) young girls want to play rugby b) women want to play rugby?
  • How do you grow a women’s section and how do you recruit the players
  • Case studies outlining best practice from the clubs we have visited.
  • The next steps and the importance of a strategy

To reserve a place on the course clubs should email [email protected] by Wednesday 7th November detailing the names of those club officials who will be attending.
