Weather prospects this Christmas look promising for the traditional St Stephen’s Day Exiles Cup.

This hugely-popular match, held for nigh on four decades, fell victim to dreadful weather last year. Planning is well advanced for this year’s battle earmarked for 2.30 pm, at Dubarry, on Monday afternoon.

The President’s XV will be backboned by Buccaneers Thirds under the captaincy of Gerry Glynn. He has a direct line to the Order of Malta if needed should the exchanges get too heated or the Christmas excesses prove too much. His charges hope to retain the James Moran Exiles Perpetual Cup, a feat not easily achieved.

Adding spice to the occasion, Eddie Brady will be head ‘Copper’ for the Exiles Selection whose squad, at time of writing, is a closely guarded secret. The Exiles will surely unleash a few old warhorses in its panel and, all in all, it could prove a more competitive affair than usual. The coveted trophy will be presented to the victorious captain in The Bounty after the duel.

Lotto numbers are 5, 6, 12 and 21. The Jackpot was not won so next week’s Jackpot will increase to €2,600 so get your tickets in as that would surely be a welcome amount to win before Christmas! We did, however, have our first ever winner in our club Lotto with Anne Boland matching three numbers to claim €200.

Condolences and deepest sympathies to Buccaneers senior team manager Micky Carroll and his family on the death of his father Sean. Ar dheis De a anam.

TRACTOR RUN! Dubarry Park hosts an unusual and novel event on St. Stephen’s Day in the ‘BUCCS TRACTOR RUN’! This fun event should attract the curious and the converted away from reheated Christmas dinners and entice them out for a bit of fresh air. Tractors and drivers will assemble at Dubarry Park with the most enthusiastic gathering from 10.30am onwards. The tractors are then scheduled to set off in convoy at 12noon for a trip of an hour or two before congregating again back at The Bounty for a ‘post mortem’ on the journey. All are welcome. Ipswich Town could lose the rights to their nickname after this?

Pre-match festivities v Galwegians The next All-Ireland League homegame takes place on Friday, January 13, when Galwegians visit Dubarry Park for a floodlit duel kicking off at 7.30 p.m. Bookings for pre-match tables at this highly-anticipated game should be made to Geraldine at 086-1732711. Cost per person is only €30 for which you get a four-course meal including wine, seat in the Stand and a 100-page souvenir matchday programme. Groups or individuals are invited to support.

Buccaneers merchandise A selection of kids and adult Buccaneers replica gear can be purchased at the club. These could be the perfect Christmas gift. Hoodies, T-shirts, beanies, training tops, polo shirts, shorts, socks and ‘shell’ jackets are available, although stocks are now limited in some items. Contact Jackie Pears 085-1133806 or Mele Kiripati 086-3462449 for further details.
